World's richest 1% own 40% of all wealth, UN report discovers

The richest 1% of adults in the world own 40% of the planet's wealth, according to the largest study yet of wealth distribution. The report also finds that those in financial services and the internet sectors predominate among the super rich. Europe, the US and some Asia Pacific nations account for most of the extremely wealthy. More than a third live in the US. Japan accounts for 27% of the total, the UK for 6% and France for 5%. See more here

On another note India's GDP growth rate is 9.1 % and there is much jubilation, see more here However the third National Family Health Survey shows that malnutrition levels in states like Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have just gotten worse, see more here
You can see a UNICEF photo essay on severely malnourished children at a Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre run by the Red Cross and the UNICEF in my hometown Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh over here. A report by Unicef, on child nutrition found that out of 146 million children under the age of five who are underweight in the developing world, 57 million are in India, giving it by far the biggest share of the problem. In the tribal district of Shivpuri alone, more than 4,500 children suffer from acute malnourishment.
Unicef officials say close to 1,000 have been classified into Grade 4 - which means they are critical. So gdp growth rate of 9.1 %, yes we should be excited but are the poor just staying poor and the rich getting richer??
